VALUE LANDSCAPES & MARK MAKING

Our grades 4-5 made some gorgeous value landscapes this week based off of the value charts they learned about and created last week. Using the inspiration photos they drew their unique mountain ranges first, and then got to painting. They painted the "true hue" first and mixed their shades (true hue mixed with black) and tints (true hue mixed with white) to create atmospheric perspective within their creations.

Our younger grades had an entire class of line focused centers. They explored various styles of line and the different tools that can be used to create lines within art. The biggest hit of them all was a mark-making center where they used a piece of cardboard as a stamp to recreate a pattern of line marks. It was a huge mess but well worth it because these kiddos really understood how you can use a line segment to create something bigger and more intricate.

Since I see our K classes twice a week - they got to add some color to their mark making art. Their marking is very free spirited, and so is their coloring - the result is a very modern abstract piece that this art teacher cannot wait to hang up!
