Hi All! Sorry it has been a few weeks since a post, but don't worry the kids and I have been hard at work creating Art!
This week all grades are working on creating Gratitude scenes. We read the book I found in a cute little shop in Chester, CT called Grateful for You by M.H. Clark and illustrated by Cecile Metzger. While reading I had to students look with their "artists eyes" to get inspiration for their own drawings that would follow.
After the book we talking about what needs to be included in order for a drawing to be called a "scene". We then discussed the hierarchy of what is the most important part of their drawing and there for the most prominent and how to layer on less important info following the focal point.
They brainstormed ideas of what characters they could create, who they could represent in their real life and a moment they could create between them.
Next week students will finalize their drawing and will likely have a choice of how they would like to add color.
In Kindergarten and some 1st grade classes we read the same book but created a step by step drawing similar to the illustrations in the book. This took a lot of attention to detail, and focus that we have been building stamina with each week. The results were super cute and they are now on display in the K hallway.
