Colorful Cozy Animals & Tall Snow People!

These adorable cozy winter animals were made by 2nd and 3rd grade. We talked about watercolor techniques such as wax resist, mixing, and how to make the colors pale or vibrant. We very carefully practiced staying in the lines with watercolor paint - which is very hard and requires a lot of patients and dabbing off of excess water which does not come naturally to these quick workers. The results are wonderful. They paid such attention to detail and it really shows.

Below are our 1st grade SUPER TALL SNOWPEOPLE! These are so quirky and fun. The paper is 6" x 18" which is hard to tell from the photo but they are in fact super tall snow people. They drew with pencil, outlined with sharpie, colored their scarves and hat with sharpies, and then created wax resist snowflakes in the background before going crazy with watercolor paint to create their scenes. I just love them - they make me smile!

Our Kindergarten corner got some new decorations with a cozy fireplace featuring their snowflake art above, and their gumdrop wreaths on either side.

Here is a sneak peek at our 4th and 5th grades Cozy Winter Animals - they hopefully will finish them next week.
