Bold Designs & Spring Flowers

5th, 4th & some 3rd Grade worked last week on making tie dye paper using bleeding tissue paper, and this week they got to create bold designs using black acrylic paint. They had a very hard time generating ideas at first because the stakes were so high but once they committed to an idea the process was smooth sailing. Painting neatly with our detail brushes was not easy but they learned to anchor their hands to the table before making paint strokes. These are going up in the hallway leading down to 4th and 5th grade very soon.

Kindergarten made these beautiful spring flowers on Day 1 and then learned how to draw a bumble bee in their magnifying glass as a fun surprise. We all are just about done with winter so working on some spring flowers really was a boost!

3rd, 2nd, & 1st grade got busy making Spring flowers as well but they got to draw a few flowers by their own design and they got to use watercolor crayons to add color. This is a special material that doesn't come out very often but does allow some really nice color blending to occur. The kids were thrilled by the magic that happened when they added water. Next week we will add something to these but not sure exactly what yet!
